The length of an effective and engaging blog post has always been a topic of genuine inquiry amongst bloggers, marketers and business owners. If you look at blog posts by popular bloggers in different niches, you will come across different blog lengths. If there are mini blog posts containing 100-200 words, there are also blog posts with more than 2000 and even 3000 words. Short, 300-word blog posts are better if the intention of the blogger is to encourage readers to ask questions and to start a discussion. It is seen that bloggers who write short posts around 275-300 words get most comments from their readers.
However, short blog posts are not shared on social media platforms and they are not noticed by search engines also. If your goal is SEO of your website, it is better to write blog posts containing 500 or more words. These posts are also widely shared by readers on Facebook and Twitter.
You are free to decide the word count of your blog posts provided you keep them interesting for your readers. Medium length blogs containing more than 600 words but less than 1200 words are not only good for the purpose of SEO, but they also get shared and start a discussion among readers. Google becomes interested when blog posts are long and thoroughly researched.
